Eyelash Extensions at Saxon MD

Dr. Sarah Saxon at Saxon MD and her highly trained staff are proud to offer our clients the option of eyelash extensions at our Austin and Dallas Med Spa locations.

Eyelash extensions are a simple, non-invasive treatment used to create the bold look of full and long lashes. These extensions create a beautiful eye for several weeks at a time without the daily effort of mascara and false eyelashes. With this treatment, extensions are attached to individual natural eyelashes using a long-lasting adhesive to create your new look. Your extensions stay until the natural lash falls out.

Depending on your desired results, we offer three styles of extensions:

  • Classic Eyelash Extension - Individual extensions are attached to each lash, creating a fuller, bold look.
  • Volumizing Eyelash Extension - Clusters of 3-15 extensions are attached to each natural lash. This application is useful for clients with sparse eyelashes.
  • Hybrid Eyelash Extension - A combination of classic and volumizing, hybrid extensions can give you a dramatic look that will boost your confidence and self-esteem with the day-to-day maintenance of make-up.

Eyelash Extensions vs. Eyelash Lift

When clients are looking for eyelash enhancements, two treatments often come up, eyelash extensions and eyelash lifts. Eyelash lifts are a good option for someone who has healthy, long lashes. With a lift, the natural lash is curled from the base, creating a long-lasting, extended look. Eyelash extensions, however, are ideal for clients with thinner natural lashes that need a boost creating a fuller, more dramatic look that can replace mascara and false eyelash strips.

Benefits of Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions in Dallas are a great semi-permanent solution for individuals looking for longer, fuller lashes.

Benefits of eyelash extensions include:

  • A boost in self-esteem and confidence.
  • An easier daily routine. Extensions offer a dramatic look that replicates wearing make-up without the effort of applying mascara.
  • A longer-lasting, more natural-looking option than false eyelashes.

Am I a candidate for Eyelash Extensions?

Generally, eyelash extensions have very few limitations. They are a wonderful choice for most individuals looking to create a bolder look to their eyes with fuller, longer lashes. However, there are some things to consider when deciding if extensions are right for you.

  • Eyelash extensions are considered to be a maintenance treatment for most people. In order to keep your results looking good, you will need to schedule follow-up refills.
  • Your natural lashes need to be healthy enough to support the extensions
  • If you have certain disorders, such as trichotillomania, eyelid dermatitis, or alopecia areata, eyelash extensions would likely not be successful.
  • If you suffer from allergies or other symptoms that lead to itchy, watery eyes
  • Upcoming procedures that you may want to delay your extensions for, such as Lasik, chemotherapy, or radiation.

Consultation and Preparation

At your eyelash extension consultation at Saxon MD, you will work with your specialist to decide which style would be best for the look you are trying to achieve. You will leave this appointment knowing what to expect during your treatment and how to take care of your new look.

Preparing for your extensions is simple. It is really important to start with a clean face. Make sure that you have removed all your eye makeup before your appointment. If your specialist has to remove your makeup, there will be an additional fee.

Procedure

Your eyelash extension is a painless and relaxing procedure. You will be able to sit back in one of our comfortable treatment chairs, close your eyes, and relax while your lash specialist gets to work.

You can even bring in your earbuds and listen to your favorite podcast, music, or audiobook to pass the time, as your treatment can last between 2-2.5 hours, depending on your chosen style.

It would be best to come to your appointment without makeup and with a clean face. After your lash specialist has made sure that your lashes are properly prepped, they will start the process of placing the extensions, using eyelash extension adhesive and tweezers to carefully attach each strand properly to a natural lash.

Results and Aftercare

The results of your eyelash extension application are immediate. You will leave your appointment with beautifully framed eyes. Eyelash extensions are a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure, and you can expect to continue with completely normal activity after your appointment.

Your aesthetic specialist will provide you with complete aftercare instructions, but there are several things you can do to care for both your new and your natural lashes.

  • Keep your lashes dry for at least 24-48 hours to let the glue set; that includes no mascara or excessive water.
  • Using a clean spoolie (mascara wand), gently brush your lashes daily.
  • Try to touch your lashes as little as possible. Avoid rubbing or pulling on them; it can cause breakage and detachment of both the extensions and your natural lashes.
  • Avoid waterproof mascara and eye makeup altogether. It is best not to use mascara at all (you may find that you don’t even need it), but if you must, find an extension-friendly, oil-free brand.
  • The above applies to classic style extensions only. Mascara is contraindicated in volume or hybrid eyelash extensions and should never be used.
  • Do not use lash curlers on, tint, or perm your extensions.
  • Gentle oil-free cleansers only, such as micellar water.
  • Your lash extensions will fall out on their own. Using a 2-3 week refill schedule is best to maintain your new look. If you want to remove them altogether, you can let them fall out naturally or see your lash specialist to remove them. It is best for the integrity of your natural lashes not to attempt removal on your own.

Eyelash Extensions FAQs

Eyelash extensions are a safe option for long-lasting, fuller lashes. While there is always a risk of irritation, infection, and natural lash loss, it is minimal, and we work hard to ensure that it does not occur for you, the client.

Lash extensions can cause natural lashes to thin out if applied improperly and not taken care of. We strive to minimize that risk by using proper application and providing you with information on how to care for your new eyelashes.

With Dallas eyelash extensions, most clients find that they no longer need mascara, and we recommend not wearing it to prolong your results.

Your eyelash extensions can last up to 3 weeks optimally, and the extensions are attached to your natural lashes, which tend to fall out on a 2-3 week cycle. Therefore, we recommend 1, 2, and 3-week fills to maintain your look. If it has been longer than three weeks or you have less than 50% of previous extensions still attached, your appointment will be considered a new full set.

While being affordable, new eyelash extensions can vary in price. Your cost will depend on individual factors such as the style you choose and the duration of treatment.
