What is Xeomin?

Xeomin is an injection used to treat fine lines and wrinkles in the face and neck. It works by temporarily immobilizing the very small muscles that cause wrinkles, so they smooth out and become less noticeable. A neuromodulator that contains incobotulinumtoxinA, Xeomin is double-filtered through a process called XTRACT technology. This process removes components and proteins not needed for the treatment to provide results, thus providing a more pure version of the injection serum. Botulinum toxin is most often used to treat wrinkles between the eyebrows but has multiple applications throughout the face and body.

Xeomin vs Botox

Xeomin and Botox both contain the same active working component- the neurotoxin botulinum. The main difference between the two is that Xeomin contains fewer additives and extra proteins because of the double filtration process that it goes through. On a molecular level, Xeomin is a more refined, cleaner option for this type of treatment. Some people who have had poor reactions to Botox are able to see great results with Xeomin because they can avoid unnecessary complex proteins and other additives that may cause allergic reactions.

Results, Recovery, and Aftercare

Since this is a non-surgical, non-invasive option, there is no downtime after the procedure. You may have slight tenderness at the injection site. You will receive instructions on the best ways to ensure optimal results, including not lying down for several hours and other sleep habits. Typically patients see noticeable results within a week, with full effect around one month.

Xeomin FAQs

Since Xeomin is administered with a needle, you will feel a slight pinch, but it is a quick procedure, and any discomfort passes quickly.

The most common risk associated with botulinum toxin is an allergic reaction which can include rash, swelling, or redness and, in severe cases, difficulty breathing or dizziness.

Xeomin is a temporary treatment with results lasting approximately 3-6 months. Follow-up treatments would be needed to sustain results.

If you are pregnant, using any form of botulinum toxin is not recommended. There is no specific research on using Xeomin while breastfeeding. However, the amount of active ingredients is extremely small, so it is unlikely to be a concern.

You will be instructed not to lie down for 4-6 hours after your treatment, as this can disrupt the action of the formula. We recommended sleeping on your back for the first 48 hours after treatment to avoid any dose migration.

No, regular activity can be resumed immediately after treatment.

The cost of treatment will vary depending on how many treatment areas will be addressed and, thus, the number of injections needed. Your provider will discuss costs with you in detail at a consultation.
