Reveal Your Youthful Complexion

Erbium fractional laser resurfacing uses a microbeam pattern to target damaged skin while preserving healthy tissue. This promotes faster healing and less downtime. The laser removes damaged cells and stimulates collagen production, leading to tighter, smoother skin with reduced wrinkles, scars, and uneven pigmentation.

What is

Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Erbium vs CO2 Laser Resurfacing

Erbium lasers target superficial concerns with minimal downtime, making them ideal for those with fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, or uneven skin tone. CO2 lasers address deeper wrinkles, scars, and more severe signs of aging, but require longer recovery. Dr. Saxon will recommend the best option for your needs based on the severity of your concerns and your desired downtime.

What is the Difference Between Ablative and Non-Ablative Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatments?

Laser skin resurfacing offers a powerful solution for achieving smoother, younger-looking skin. However, there are two main approaches to consider, each with its own benefits and recovery time:

Targets: Deep wrinkles, scars, uneven skin texture, and age spots.

Benefits: Dramatic results with significant improvement in skin texture and tone.

Considerations: Requires removing the outer layer of skin, leading to a longer recovery period with redness, swelling, and peeling.

Targets: Fine lines, mild wrinkles, sun damage, and uneven skin tone.

Benefits: Gradual improvement with minimal downtime, ideal for those seeking a less invasive approach.

Considerations: Requires multiple sessions for optimal results, and the improvement may be subtle compared to ablative lasers.

Preparing for Laser Skin Resurfacing:

What to Expect

After laser skin resurfacing, you can expect some redness, swelling, and mild discomfort. You will be placed on a very specific post-treatment skincare regimen to ensure that your skin stays moisturized without irritation.

About 3-5 days after your treatment, it is common to have some peeling. The extent of the peeling depends on your skin condition prior to treatment and the depth of treatment.

Mild redness typically lasts 5 to 10 days, during which you should avoid sun exposure and follow all post-care instructions. Makeup can be worn to cover any redness once peeling subsides.

The full recovery may take several weeks as your skin heals and regenerates. It can take up to 3 months to see the final results, but you’ll notice smoother, rejuvenated skin as your body produces new collagen fibers.

Laser Skin Resurfacing FAQs

Who is the ideal candidate for laser skin resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing is suitable for individuals with signs of aging, skin imperfections, or scarring. For those with darker skin types, pretreatment with topical medications may be needed to minimize risks.
You may experience mild discomfort during the procedure, but a topical anesthetic or numbing cream is applied to minimize pain. After the procedure, some redness and stinging can occur.
You will notice immediate improvements in skin texture and tone, but full results may take a few months as collagen continues to rebuild.
Laser resurfacing can provide long-lasting results, but the natural aging process and sun exposure can affect longevity. Regular skin care is essential to maintain results.
