Day by Day Halo Laser Recovery Pictures: What to Expect After Your Treatment
At Saxon MD, we understand that undergoing a Halo laser treatment can be both exciting and a little nerve-wracking. Many patients are eager to know what to expect during recovery and how their skin will transform day by day. Today, we’re sharing Weslea’s personal recovery journey after her first Halo laser treatment, complete with daily videos to guide you through the typical healing process.
What is Halo Laser Treatment?
The Halo laser by Sciton is the world’s first hybrid fractional laser, representing a significant advancement in skin rejuvenation technology. What makes Halo truly revolutionary is its unique ability to deliver both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to the same treatment area simultaneously.
The ablative wavelength (2940 nm) creates controlled micro-injuries on the skin’s surface, effectively removing damaged outer layers. Meanwhile, the non-ablative wavelength (1470 nm) penetrates deeper into the dermis to stimulate collagen production and address issues beneath the surface. This dual-action approach provides comprehensive rejuvenation with significantly less downtime than traditional ablative lasers alone.
Skin Concerns Targeted by Halo Laser
Halo laser treatments are exceptionally versatile and can address multiple skin concerns in a single session:
- Sun damage and discoloration: Effectively reduces sunspots, melasma, age spots, and uneven pigmentation
- Fine lines and wrinkles: Stimulates collagen production to smooth and reduce the appearance of fine lines
- Enlarged pores: Refines and minimizes the appearance of pore size
- Acne scars and other scarring: Improves texture and appearance of various types of scarring
- Uneven skin tone: Creates more uniform, balanced skin color
- Dull complexion: Reveals fresh, glowing skin by removing damaged surface cells
- Textural irregularities: Smooths rough patches and improves overall skin texture
- Mild skin laxity: Provides moderate tightening through collagen stimulation
Suitable for All Skin Types
One of the most significant advantages of the Halo laser is its safety and effectiveness across all skin types. Unlike many other laser treatments that carry higher risks for darker skin tones, Halo’s customizable settings make it appropriate for virtually every patient:
- Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-VI: Can be safely used on the fairest to the darkest skin tones
- Customizable treatment parameters: Allows our providers to precisely adjust settings based on your specific skin type, concerns, and desired downtime
- Tunable technology: The ability to independently adjust each wavelength means we can create truly personalized treatment plans
- Year-round treatment option: Can be performed even on skin with some tan, making it more accessible than many other laser options
The advanced technology in Halo allows us to safely treat a wider range of patients than was previously possible with traditional laser systems, truly democratizing access to effective skin rejuvenation.
Weslea’s Day-by-Day Halo Recovery Journey
Day 0: Treatment Day
What to Expect: On treatment day, most patients experience warmth, redness, and a sensation similar to a sunburn. Your skin may feel tight and appear quite pink or red. Don’t expect to go to any event after your treatment because you will leave with a sheet mask on. The rest of the day and evening, we will have you spray a Velez mist to cool down the skin further and decrease inflammation.
Saxon MD Recovery Protocol:
- Application of Benev Regenerative Complex (topical exosome treatment)
- Velez sheet mask before leaving the office
- Use Velez hypochlorous acid mist at home for cooling and inflammation reduction
Day 1: First Day Post-Treatment
What to Expect: The redness typically intensifies slightly, and you may notice some swelling when you wake up. Swelling varies from person to person. At this point, you will start to use the Alastin Procedure Enhancement System for your skincare routine. You can still use the Velez mist which can continue to cool the skin and reduce inflammation. If you have swelling, cool compresses can help.
Saxon MD Recovery Protocol:
- Morning and evening application of Alastin Gentle Cleanser
- Use Alastin Skin Nectar throughout the day
- Alastin Ultra Nourishing Moisturizer can be used morning and evening
- Keep sunscreen on at all times during the day even if you are inside.
- Velez hypochlorous acid mist as needed for comfort
Day 2: Continued Dryness and Brown Spots
What to Expect: This is typically when redness resolves, but you start to feel dry and scaly. You will also start to see dark specks come to the surface. These are called MENDs (Microscopic Epidermal Necrotic Debris) which are tiny pieces of dead skin cells created during the treatment process. This will evntually slough off once the skin heals. It is safe to start using makeup on day 2, but most simply use a tinted sunscreen until their skin completely heals.
Saxon MD Recovery Protocol:
- Continue with Alastin products
- Gentle application techniques – no rubbing or scrubbing
- Continued use of Velez mist for comfort
- Avoiding direct sun exposure and excessive sweating
- Ok to wear makeup
Day 3: More Dark Spots and the Start of Peeling
What to Expect: Around day 3, many patients begin to experience fine flaking or peeling, particularly around the mouth, chin, and jawline areas. This is completely normal and should not be forced or picked at. You may see even more brown spots emerge at this point as well. It’s important to continue to moisturize the skin since it will feel almost like sandpaper.
Saxon MD Recovery Protocol:
- Increase hydration with Alastin Skin Nectar
- Gentle cleansing without exfoliation
- Continue with Velez hypochlorous acid mist
Day 4: Active Peeling Phase
What to Expect: The peeling can become more noticeable and widespread. Your skin underneath will appear pink but fresh and renewed. This is the first day that a gentle physical exfoliant, like Alastin Skin Polish may help. We recommend using a small amount of skin polish while you are washing your face in the shower. BE EXTRA GENTLE so you do not damage your skin.
Saxon MD Recovery Protocol:
- Continue with gentle, hydrating skincare
- Resist the urge to pull at peeling skin. Use Alastin skin polish in the shower if needed.
- Apply Alastin products in gentle, patting motions
Day 5: Revealing Fresh Skin
What to Expect: By day 5, much of the peeling has completed for most patients, though some may still experience light flaking. The fresh, new skin is becoming more visible, though still pink.
Weslea’s Experience: “Most of the peeling has finished, though I still had some light flaking around my jawline. The pinkness had significantly reduced, and I was amazed at how smooth and glowing my skin looked already. The dark spots that bothered me for years were noticeably lighter.”
Saxon MD Recovery Protocol:
- Continue with the Alastin Recovery Kit
- Begin transition back to normal skincare routine (as directed)
- Maintain diligent sun protection

The initial healing reveals improvements in surface texture and pigmentation, while collagen remodeling continues for months afterward, gradually improving fine lines and skin firmness.
Final Thoughts
Weslea’s journey illustrates the typical Halo laser recovery timeline, but it’s important to remember that individual experiences may vary. Some patients heal more quickly, while others may take a few extra days to complete the peeling process.
