How Does HALO Laser Work?
The science behind HALO lies in its dual-wavelength delivery. It utilizes a 1470 nm non-ablative wavelength to penetrate deep into the dermis, creating controlled zones of coagulation that trigger the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin.
Simultaneously, a 2940 nm ablative wavelength targets the epidermis, vaporizing microscopic paths in the skin’s surface to eliminate dullness and pigment. This synchronized delivery is governed by Intelligent Energy Delivery software, which measures the skin’s temperature and ensures every square centimeter of your face receives the exact amount of energy required for optimal results.
Halo Laser vs Morpheus8
While both Halo and Morpheus8 are powerful skin rejuvenation treatments, they work differently. Halo uses hybrid fractional laser technology, while Morpheus8 is a radiofrequency microneedling device. Morpheus8 delivers RF energy through microneedles to stimulate collagen at deeper levels, making it ideal for skin tightening and fat remodeling, particularly in areas like the jawline and neck.
Halo, on the other hand, is more effective for improving skin texture, tone, and pigmentation issues. Both treatments can be combined for comprehensive skin resurfacing and tightening, depending on individual goals.
A typical HALO session in our Austin clinics lasts approximately 90 to 120 minutes.
Preparation: We apply a topical numbing cream for 45–60 minutes to ensure your comfort.
Mapping: The HALO handpiece measures your face to ensure even treatment and precise energy delivery.
The Treatment: As the laser passes over the skin, you’ll feel a sensation of heat with occasional prickling.
Post-Care: A cooling mist or cold compresses are applied immediately after to soothe the “sunburn” sensation.
After a Halo treatment, you can expect the following:
Redness & Warmth: Your skin will feel warm and appear red for 24-48 hours. You will leave the office with a Velez cooling sheet mask on your face to cool down the skin and minimize any discomfort.
Swelling: The area treated can be swollen for several days after your treatment. This is worse if you have hyaluronic acid fillers which can absorb water. Icing is recommended during this time.
Bronzing & Peeling: Around day 2 or 3, your skin will develop a bronzed appearance before peeling away dead skin cells over the next few days.
Downtime: Most patients resume normal activities within 3 days. We recommend using a tinted sunscreen for the first 5 days before transitioning back to your regular makeup routine.
Sun Protection: Avoid direct sun exposure, and use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ to protect your healing skin.
Dryness: Your skin will be very dry 7-10 days following your treatment. We recommend keeping your skin hydrated with Alastin Skin Nectar and a gentle moisturizer.
No Harsh Products: Avoid retinoids, exfoliants, or harsh skincare for at least a week. After that time, Alastin Skin Polish can be used to slough off any remaining flakiness that remains.

Because your skin will be dry and flaky, it’s best to wait about 5-7 days before using a full-coverage foundation.
